The history and timeline of Quik Stop Markets.
Four gentlemen who worked for a small grocery store in the San Francisco bay area had a vision of opening a chain of convenience stores that could be franchised to individuals who would concentrate on business operations and have the paperwork and accounting processed in a central office. The accounting dept would process the bills and generate financial statements for a small fee. Thus Quik Stop Markets, Inc. was founded and the first office opened in Fremont, CA in 1965. Leon Sayous becomes first President.
1966
Quik Stop franchises its first store in Hayward, CA
1967
Quik Stop expands to Southern California, ultimately opening 12 stores
1970
The number of stores had grown to 35
Quik Stop is purchased by Dillon Companies of Hutchinson, KS
John Baldwin from Dillon becomes President
1971
Don Anderson is promoted to President
Gus Xepoleas joins company as Director of Operations
1972
Gus Xepoleas is promoted to President
1973
Quik Stop moves to new 12,000 sq. ft. offices in Fremont, CA
1974
Quik Stop grows to 98 stores
Quik Stop closes Southern California stores
1981
Quik Stop opens all stores 24 hours
1982
Earth tone colors of brown and orange replace the red and black colors in the Quik Stop
1983
Quik Stop decides to open new stores as company-operated
1989
Quik Stop grows to 122 stores
Larry Kranich named as President
1992
Quik Stop begins franchising all company-operated stores
1997
Larry Kranich retires. Van Tarver name as new President
First Radiant POS system installed in stores
Gasoline equipment upgraded with card readers
Store remodel program begins
1998
Quik Stop introduces new logo
Quik Start gasoline name dropped, now to be sold under the Quik Stop brand

First truck stop store opens in Livingston, CA

First store opened outside of California in Reno, NV
First store with slot machines

Open first store with a car wash in Sparks, NV

New Corporate logo introduced for all convenience store divisions
